The Story behind IWC and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s Le Petit Prince
IWC has had a long standing partnership with the Saint-Exupéry-d’Agay Estate whereby the heirs of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and IWC would collaborate in various ways. IWC would support the Fondation’s goals of preserving the famous Frenchman’s humanist ideas. In turn, the Fondation would support certain IWC endeavors, particularly those relating to aviation and pilots’ watches. The recurring themes of aviation and dreams converged to produce very special projects, such as this timepiece.
For the first time, IWC is introducing the patented Timezoner function in the design code of its “Le Petit Prince” special editions. As per most Le Petit Prince special editions, this watch features a sunray brushed blue dial and an engraving on the caseback of the little prince.
IWC Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Edition “Le Petit Prince” (Ref. IW395503)
The Pilot’s Watch Timezoner Edition “Le Petit Prince” (Ref. IW395503) has a stainless steel 46-millimetre case, a midnight-blue dial, a blue ceramic city ring, and white luminous coated numerals and hands. The patented Timezoner function allows you to easily switch between different time zones. All you have to do is press down on the bezel, turn it to the desired position, and release it. The city names make it simple to operate. The patented Timezoner mechanism functions without stopping the movement. Not a single second is lost, even when crossing the dateline.
The IWC-manufactured 82760 calibre powers the watch. The automatic movement is strong and precise, with a bi-directional Pellaton winding system. It has a power reserve of 60 hours thanks to components made of virtually wear-free zirconium oxide ceramic. The transparent glass back allows for an unobstructed view of the decorated movement.
