Horologically significant and highly sought after, KUDOKE was founded in 2005 by German independent master watchmaker and AHCI-member Stefan Kudoke.
One of the youngest recognised Master Craftsmen (deutche Meisterbrief) in Glashütte at the age of 22, Stefan Kudoke has established himself in the industry by becoming an AHCI-accredited independent watchmaker and a GPHG Laureate – the first independent watchmaker from Germany to win the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) Petite Aiguille award. KUDOKE has today grown into a brand that is celebrated by discerning collectors for its refined hand-finished watches that are made firmly in the traditional German schools of haute horology.
A highlight of the KUDOKE collection is the in-house KALIBER 1 movement – which is what forms the foundation of the KUDOKE ‘HANDwerk’ series. Developed by Stefan Kudoke, this movement stays true to his dedication to refinement, with great value placed on detailed hand-engraving and finishing of the highest standards. The ‘HANDwerk’ series thus pays tribute to the traditional handcraft invested into each elaborate timepiece.
The ‘HANDwerk’ collection currently comprises of three models. The first from the collection is the KUDOKE 1 – a three-hand watch with the seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. It is balanced out by the crown and logo plate at 3 o’clock, bringing a striking sense of simplicity to the watch face. The brightly frosted two-layer dial with two applied chapter rings is reminiscent of old times, embodying pure understatement through this time-only watch.
The second timepiece from the ‘HANDwerk’ series is the KUDOKE 2. Here, the attention is immediately drawn to the celestial 24-hour indication at 12 o’clock, with the hand-engraved rotating domed sky disk electroplated in gold, white, and black rhodium. The dial continues the artistic line of the KUDOKE 1, juxtaposing Roman and Arabic numerals on the rhodium-plated chapter rings. The KUDOKE 2 expressly decelerates and relaxes the experience of time with the omission of a seconds hand, further demonstrating Stefan Kudoke’s talent in combining tradition and contemporary design.
Widely praised by the masses, KUDOKE 2 earned Stefan Kudoke the 2019 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) award in the ‘Petite Aiguille’ category. Stefan Kudoke is also recognized as the first independent watchmaker from Germany to achieve such a feat.
The latest from the collection is the KUDOKE 3 – a novelty that displays the hours in an unconventional way using a three-tier hour scale and a three-armed hand to reach the different tiers accordingly. While the minutes are ‘classically’ indicated by the large blued steel hand, the hour indicator is placed on an attached plate divided into three sections on the dial level below, giving the dial of the watch impressive visual depth.
